“BIRDS, INSECTS, AND OTHER CRITTERS” by Gil Helland

The weather has gotten very nice and there are many living things to take pictures of. Whether you’re at the Refuge, at a lake, a park or even in your own backyard – you will find birds, insects and other critters to take pictures of.

Join Gil in his presentation as he offers some tips on how to find those things and how best to capture images that will be memorable and fun! And you may even broaden your photographic skills by what is presented.

You’ll learn things like:

  • What types of equipment you’ll want to use and alternatives to them.
  • What settings may help in taking better pictures.
  • What type of lighting to use.
  • What techniques you’ll want to try.
  • How to learn about the animals and insects you’ll be taking pictures of and why that’s important.
  • Hear about the three types of bird images you can take.
  • And an array of tips to help in taking pictures of those birds, insects, and other critters.

Then, prepare for a special portion of the presentation focusing on bird photography. You’ll learn how to:

  • Choose the right equipment.
  • How to set up a perfect perch for backyard bird photography.
  • How to prepare for a trip to take pictures of birds.
  • Tips on taking pictures of birds from your vehicle…and a boat.
  • How to use portable blinds, lighting, angles, composition, and more.
  • Then hear some tips on the Do’s and Don’ts of editing your bird photos.
  • And then look for the inclusion of this presentation in the newsletter and on the website, where there many resources are available for your avian photography.

This program will be fast paced and could go 30 minutes or more and we hope it’ll be worth your time!
